Emergency support for individuals, organisations including civic initiatives

Call for applications for Georgian human rights defenders, activists, and journalists working in the field of human rights and democracy in Georgia, with a particular focus on those who work with particularly vulnerable groups and/or promote democratic values and civic engagement.

  1. Emergency support for individuals (activists, civil society representatives, journalists, cultural and scientific community, etc.) who find themselves in emergency situations as a result of their activities/activism, to cover expenses including, but not limited to, the following costs:
  • Emergency legal support
  • Psychosocial support/assistance against emotional burnout/post-trauma/rehabilitation
  • Medical care and health insurance
  • Replacement of confiscated equipment, physical/digital security costs
  • Forced relocation within and outside the country (tickets, temporary accommodation)
  • Return to the country and continuation of activities
  • Expenses necessary for opening and accessing foreign bank accounts

 

  1. Individual projects/Organisations support

Support for individual projects may be provided to human rights defenders, journalists or unregistered initiative groups, organisations working in the field of human rights and democracy who find themselves in an emergency or transformational situation (e.g., recent relocation, repression by the authorities, loss of employment due to activism, etc.). This support is aimed at human rights defenders, journalists, whose situation is critical/unstable/isolated, but which nevertheless allows them to engage in meaningful activities that serve their communities.

Emergency support for individual project may include expenses for:

  • Temporary accommodation
  • Office rent and other administrative costs
  • Technical equipment, software and technical assistance
  • Salaries
  • Psychological support
  • Digital and physical security
  • Content production and promotion
  • Legal services
  • Research costs
  • Local transportation or other similar expenses without which the relevant project cannot be implemented
  • Measures to ensure continuity of operations and enhance physical security
  • Fees for paying legal services to human rights defenders/journalists in need of assistance
  • Support in covering expenses related to travel to access funds (e.g., foreign bank accounts)

Duration of support: up to 6 months

Application amounts:

  • The maximum budget for covering individual expenses under Emergency Support is 3000 EUR; for collective application, it is up to 5000 EUR.
  • The maximum budget for implementing Individual project is 10 000 EUR

 

A joint application means that you are applying for support for yourself and your partner, family member, etc.

To help us support as many organisations/individuals as possible, please note that no more than three individual applications from the same organisation can be accepted.

Applications from individuals representing political or religious organizations will not be considered.
